He who knows the doctrine knows the lord saint of a temple. A temple is made of flesh and blood and it is the people that make a temple. They must however live up to the doctrine and be guided by doctrine in their lives and temple activities.
If they do not see the doctrine as integral to life, they see not their lord saint even if the image or portrait of the lord saint is at the temple 365 days in a year. If that happens, the doctrine is as good as being returned to Heaven to be given to 49 worthwhile temples (49 to denote the temple in all of the various directions).
As like what Lord Bo Tien said with regards to any temple in his name, his image is the doctrine and if the doctrine is not there in the lives of members in the temple, the image will be burnt and returned to Heaven.
But if the people live and operate the temple in the spirit of the doctrine, he will be at the temple even if there is a crack in his wooden image. With time, a wooden image will crack but this should be of no concern. What is important is for members of the temple to have heart in the doctrine and make the doctrine integral to their lives. All these did the lord saint say.
Lord Bo Tien further added that the time would come when many may doubt his existence. That is immaterial, so long as the doctrine is there and can reach out to men and be in their lives. This matters more than whether people believe in his existence as a saint.
