Are we here to learn and unlearn?
We learn from new experiences and events in life.
We learn from the strengths and weaknesses in life, not only our own but others as well. This did Lord Bo Tien remind us and is good advice for all whether we believe in his existence or otherwise.
We learn to unlearn from our bad habits so that we can be better off in virtues. We have to if we want to move on.
We learn to know God and saints better and learn to unlearn the limited concept of God and saints as we progress along our path towards oneness with God and saints.
Life is a continuous process of learning and unlearning. Our understanding of God and life undergoes constant learning and unlearning.
We diverge to know more and converge to understand better and not be lost in the sea of knowledge and experiences. Then we unlearn so that we can diverge to learn a bit more but soon have to converge to learn or know better the new bit more that we came to know.
Life is about learning and unlearning. While we need to stick to dogmas along the way, we need to give them up along the way and accept new dogmas or assumptions. This goes on and on.
That is why there are many religions and many sects and many schools in any sect as well as many groups and viewpoints within any religious organisation or temple.
In religion, it would not be right to say that what we do now is right and what we do differently in the past was wrong. What was right was right at that point but not so right or inadequate now as we progress in life and in spiritual development.
Likewise never say we are right and others wrong or not-so-right. Do not be self righteous. Man shall not be saved by self-righteousness alone but by accepting there is more of God and the universe of life than man could fathom at any point in time. It would be foolish to be self-righteous.
We cannot insist we are right but we must go on to learn and unlearn. That is life.
