The flower may be beauty to behold and appreciate but the individual parts that make up the flower are not. No part of the flower can stand alone. This did Lord Bo Tien reiterated to us and applies to life and religious organisations.
While life as a whole is substantial, the various times of our life taken on their own will not be as substantive and may even be unsatisfactory.
The various views and understanding of religion and spiritual matters in a temple or church may be conflicting at times and also perplexing. But if taken together as a whole are insightful and revealing of the angles and perspectives of spiritual matters.
We can then have the opportunity to have better insight of divinity and the diverse aspects of religion that appeal to the various sections of the masses. These views can be in one place and reach out to more in society as the various view points would provide a buffet spread for choice. Stand alone view of one group that monopolises a temple and intolerant of other views will put off many who do not find that view attractive as the view may be found wanting to them.
A temple must be cosmopolitan and accomodate all views and approaches. Each on its own will be bias and incomplete, but if taken together as one in diversity will be more awe inspiring and revealing -- a wide and more complete spread of perspectives on religion.
We can learn more and not just be faced with one perspective but with array of many perspectives. This is more attractive and appealing, just like the flower. The individual parts seen separately are ugly but if taken together though become the beautiful flower.
A temple must be a complete flower. Let a temple be complete like the flower. It is people that make up a temple or church. Let there be not one but many people and perspectives. That would surely be more inclusive, complete and wholesome.
This dear readers is the message by saints like Lord Bo Tien to all temples, churches and religions as well as the universe of beings at large and in all dimensions of existence.
May any of the Bo Tien temples be wholesome examples. Namo Bo Tien Posat.
