Lord Bo Tien stressed that oldies with their wealth of spiritual experiences should be in the religious body to lead in a temple through the religious body but not in the administration |
Old timers in a religious organisation should be valued not by putting them aside in gold lettering on the honorary roll but by facilitating their roles in spiritual activities. They should be respected as in accordance to the 6th precept of the lord saint. They should constitute the religious body in the organisation. Without the religious body, that organisation will lose it spirituality and continuity of the pioneering spirit. Their worthiness lies in the wealth of experiences. They are assets to enhance the learning curve of newbies. They need to be co-pilots with the newbies. The newbies can learn from their lives, the strong points and their weaknesses. They have together a wealth of resources both spiritual and otherwise. Not to respect them as elders would entail spiritual loss to the organisation.
